The recently passed Economic Stimulus package includes tax credits for replacing windows and doors in your home.

How you Qualify

Replace windows and doors in your home with qualifying products in 2009 and 2010.  The window and door performance must be equal to or below a U-factor of 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower.

Details of the Tax Credit

The tax credit is based on 30% of the product cost of the windows and doors purchased, with a maximum of $1500.  The tax credit is a reduction from your income tax liability.  Save the contract and the NFRC labels (attached to the product) to claim your credit.  Fill out IRS form #5695 to submit with your income taxes.  (The forms should be updated before January 1, 2010)

Restrictions

• The credit applies to the homeowners principal residence only
• $1500 is the maximum allowable credit
• The credit is available for projects completed in 2009 and 2010 for a total of $1500 over the two year period
